The common statement of the General Prosecutor’s Office, Ukraine’s Security Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, that they allegedly have information about the provocations planned by the opposition, proves that our government has arranged its undisguised confrontation scenario for the 2004 presidential election. Having no confidence in the victory of the pro-governmental candidate, authorities are now paving the way for provocations and arousing antagonism in the society. The common statement of the law-enforcement bodies, numerous provocations during the meetings of the people’s candidate Yushchenko organized by the members of the pro-presidential parties such as the «Regions of Ukraine Party», SD(u)PU, the guys of Korchynskyi and other pocket parties, forged leaflets against Yulia Tymoshenko, police spying on V. Yushchenko and other opposition representatives, threats of reprisals and false coverage of the opposition activity by the national TV companies are the series of one and the same government's plan of action aimed to destabilize the situation in Ukraine. Without mentioning any proof the law-enforcers accuse the opposition of all conceivable sins.
Don’t believe them! If the armed clashes occur on 24 August you should know these are the government’s actions.
This common statement of the law-enforcement agencies displays the weakness of our government and illegal use of law machinery in the election fight. Instead of protecting the people’s rights these bodies have completely turned into the «myrmidons» of a pro-governmental candidate.
«The Power of the People» coalition declares that it will prevent the government’s violent provocations and protect the Ukrainians from the failed regime. If authorities are unable to secure law and order then we will do that. The attempts to rig forthcoming elections won’t work. Millions of our adherents will secure their constitutional rights making conscious choice.
«The Power of the People» coalition will demand that the heads of the law-enforcement agencies give an account to the parliament of the course of the presidential campaign and the law-enforcers’ involvement in it. We will call to account the authorities of the National TV Company of Ukraine that openly made national television serve one viewer but not the people.
We are calling upon the journalists of the «Inter», «1+1» and «UT-1» channels to realize their responsibility for having unleashed information war against society. We are asking you for remembering such notions as journalism ethics, freedom of speech, honour and dignity and keeping to them in your professional activity.
«The Power of the People» coalition demands that the President discharge the law-enforcement authorities, who involve their officers in the political fight instead of fulfilling their official duties concerning the law observance. If the President fails to do that we will forward a submission to the Verkhovna Rada on their dismissal from the office.
